With the developments of Hurricane Laura and its “too close for comfort” location to Houston, we are being told that all landfills in Houston will be closing at 4PM today, and will remain closed all of tomorrow, Thursday.

Due to the possibility of Hurricane Laura affecting our area late Wednesday August 25, 2020 to early Thursday August 26, 2020, Newport M.U.D. will be closing the Parks and Trails at 9:00 pm on August 25, 2020 and they will remain closed until further notice.

The Trails are now open. Thank you for your patience while the District’s operations staff worked to clean the areas of the trails that had been impacted by this weekend’s heavy rain fall.

Due to the heavy rain our area received on Sunday , May 24, 2020 we will be closing the trails due to high water.

One of the major issues all wastewater treatment facilities run into due to solid waste is clogged pipes and damage to the solid waste grinder.

In September 2019, Tropical Storm Imelda made landfall as the fifth-wettest tropical cyclone on record in the continental United States; the storm devasted parts of the southeast Texas.

What is stormwater?

In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic,  and in line with recently issued Governor and Secretary of State proclamations, Newport MUD has opted to delay the May 2nd Bond Authorization election until an appropriate later date.

In cooperation with actions taken by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, Newport MUD will be closing all Parks and Trails throughout the District through Easter weekend to encourage social distancing in order to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

At its January meeting, the Newport MUD Board of Directors voted to provide an increased benefit to its taxpayers who are over 65 or disabled.

Newport Municipal Utility District will begin the scheduled maintenance of the Elevated Storage Tank located on Golf Club Dr.

Newport MUD’s Drop Box lock was cut between 9:00am Friday, January 10, 2020 and 9:00am Monday, January 13, 2020.
