Notice of Mandatory Water Rationing Update

October 24, 2023 9:10 am

Newport Municipal Utility District (“District”) is implementing their Drought Contingency Plan for MANDATORY Water Conservation. State law requires that the District implement its Drought Plan when certain triggering conditions have been met. Due to mechanical issues at the Surface Water Treatment Plant the District has met such criteria. The District is still requesting all of its customers to participate in the District’s mandatory water conservation efforts.

The District is implementing Stage 1 of the Drought Contingency Plan effective September 1, 2023. The District requests that all water consumers restrict any Landscape irrigation usage to the following:

(1) Restricted Days Use – IF YOUR ADDRESS ENDS WITH AN EVEN NUMBER, YOU SHOULD WATER OUTDOORS ONLY ON MONDAY AND THURSDAY. IF YOUR ADDRESS ENDS WITH AN ODD NUMBER, YOU SHOULD WATER ONLY ON TUESDAY AND FRIDAY.

(2) Restricted Hours of Use – PLEASE WATER OUTDOORS ONLY BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 5:00 AM AND 10:00 AM AND BETWEEN 6:00 PM AND 12:00AM (MIDNIGHT) ON THE DESIGNATED DAYS.

Along with irrigation for landscaping, customers may now wash motor vehicles on the above listed designated dates and times.

The Board of Directors (“the Board”) expect the mandatory water restriction to be lifted as soon as the mechanical repairs are completed. The District will inform you when conditions no longer require participation.

The Board appreciates any assistance its customers can give about locating leaks or line breaks. Please contact the District’s operator at 281-324-9803 if you see standing or flowing water. This could indicate a water leak that needs to be repaired as soon as possible.

Thank you for your cooperation.
