Newport MUD has one full time employee for the trails and two full time employees for the parks. The board has a director responsible for parks and trails compliance and making recommendations to the board. Director Gary Hasse rides the parks and trails on a mule monthly to keep up with needed changes and recommendations on hiking and bike trails, park sites with playgrounds, restrooms and splash pads.
Erosion on the trails has been one of the “hot buttons” Director Hasse has been keenly aware of especially since the parks and trails are over 15 years old. The board has made minor repairs during the years, but one large repair was recently completed. Before and after pictures below show the devastation of the erosion and the quality of the repair. Newport MUD Directors also rely on residents to keep us appraised of any problems that arise.
