Newport MUD announces a new program just for our junior residents here in Newport. If you are resident of Newport M.U.D. you and your child are qualified to participate. The goal of this program is to encourage thoughtful fun, exploration, discovery, wonder and appreciation of the Newport Parks and Trails.
Our hope is to get our residents and their children enjoying our parks and spending some time out in nature. Our hope is to help them appreciate the importance and value of YOUR parks and trails here in Newport.
You don't need to be an expert to help your child become a junior park ranger. Your enthusiasm and encouragement are what matter most of all.
To get started we will have a committee of mom's, grandma's and all interested adults to design exactly what and when the activities will take place.
Texas Parks & Wildlife has a booklet we will be using and each child will be given their own book to work on.
- LEVEL 1 - Ages 6-7, must complete at least 5 activities.
- LEVEL 2 - Ages 8-10, must complete at least 7 activities.
- LEVEL 3 - Ages 11-12, must complete at least 9 activities.
At the completion of each level the child will be a true Junior Park Ranger and will be given a free T-Shirt.
The group will have events all through the summer to help keep the kids busy and enjoying our parks and trails.
One event will be "Kite Day in Newport"
The idea is to give each Junior Park Ranger a kite and use the kites at Port O' Call Park. There will be food and prizes also.
Another idea is "Let's Go Fishing"
The kids will go through the booklet that will be provided and we'll have a kids fish day at the ponds off of Golf Club.
If you are wondering how you can help, you can.
We will need a group of volunteers and parents to help with the kids and the events.
